Ancestors Are Special Characters…

Sometimes they hide, sometimes they lie; they can be big and bold, or quiet with unexpected achievements. Sometimes they can drive you to use such special characters such as %^&*#! when you can’t figure out who they were or where they lived. Our ancestors’ stories are waiting to be discovered, connected, and appreciated.

My mission is to unearth those histories and help others learn about those who came before them.

Are you looking for your special characters?

About

Special Characters Found Here

A native Californian based in San Diego, I’ve been a genealogist for over twenty years in search of my Eastern and Southern ancestors, as well as veterans from the Revolutionary War to WWII. This work has led me to help others in tracking their hard-to-find ancestors and stories. I offer a range of services from conducting full research projects, to locating documents, as well as coaching genealogy DIY’ers to their own victories over recalcitrant relatives.

Professional Qualifications:

  • Certificate holder of the Boston University CPE Genealogical Research Program
  • Scholarship recipient of the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (SLIG) to attend the 2019 Institute and course “Establishing Genealogical Proof with DNA”

  • Member of the National Genealogical Society (NGS)
  • Member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG)
  • Member of the International Society of Genetic Genealogy (ISOGG)

As a certificate-holder of the Boston University CPE Genealogical Research Program, and member of the National Genealogical Society, and the Association of Professional Genealogists, I support and adhere to the American Professional Genealogist’s Code of Ethics and the Board for the Certification of Genealogists Genealogical Proof Standard.

Services

Like ancestors, every project is special and is customized to meet your needs, such as:

  • Family tree research and construction
  • Oral histories: interviewing, recording, and transcription
  • Generational histories to in-depth research of a single person or family
  • Historical research
  • Forensic genealogy, repatriation of family items and heirlooms
  • House histories
  • Document research and retrieval: census, property, probate/wills, county records look up
  • Coaching: want to do it yourself, but not sure how to start, or need a jump start for your search?

How do I start?

Let’s start with baby steps and identify one person or relationship you would like to know more about.

Write down what you know about this person and/or their parents, siblings, and offspring. Add dates (birth, marriage, death) and possible residence locations if you know them, even if you are not sure. Stories passed down to you may contain nuggets of valuable information, even if you don’t believe some of the details.

If you want to organize your information, use a family group sheet to record your data, such as the one from the National Archives and Records Administration.
